Bardonecchia is attractively located
in a sunny amphitheater at the head of the Susa Valley.
Lying at 1300 m., the resort has an ideal winter and
summer climatefor visitors of all ages. Starting in
the late 1800s, Bardonecchia was one of the first mountain
villages to be developed for tourism. In the early 1900s
it became the preferred resort of the royal family and
their entourage. In 1906 the local ski club was already
active and still trains champions for the national teams.
All this made Bardonecchia a natural choice as a site
for the Olympic Winter Games 2006

Bardonecchia is not only synonymous with sports
but also with culture. The village of Melezet has one
of the most famous schools for wood inlaying in the
entire Alpine region.
The Tour d'Amont, the chapels and churches dotting the
area around Bardonecchia testify to the artistic traditions
of painting, frescoes, and wood inlaying.
A
uniquely styled building is the Palazzo
delle Feste, a multipurpose civic center with two
halls (450 and 250 seats). During the tourist seasons,
audiences can attend theatrical performances, cabaret
evenings, slide shows, classical and pop music concerts,
and other events that make this vacation resort a pleasant
place to stay.
